QUARTERBACKS
Trent Edwards (BUF)
Let the T.O. honeymoon period begin. This year will be a great opportunity for Edwards to showcase his talents. Head Coach Dick Jauron's future in Buffalo is shaky, so he really has nothing to lose, except his job, so he should be open to airing it out this season. Edwards has had flashes of brilliance at times and since this is his third year under center, the game should be slowing down a bit for him as well. Don't draft him as a starter but he could be a steal of a backup who could move into weekly starter status sometime this season.
Kyle Orton (DEN)
You may think I'm losing it but Orton could be a solid mid to late round pick. Not many have faith in him but he inherits a solid receiving core (assuming Marshall is healthy and mentally stable) and a Tight End who has yet to reach his full potential in Scheffler. Plus, Denver always has a solid running game (seems like anyone can run behind that O-Line) so Orton could be a decent bye week or injury fill in this season.
Matt Schaub (HOU)
As long as Schaub and AJ can stay healthy in Houston, this guy will knock your socks off this season. Though the injuries have plagued Houston in the past, this could be a big year for the sixth year QB. He has one of the most underrated number 2 WR's in the league in Kevin Walter and as Steve Slaton proved last year, teams must respect Houston's running game.
RUNNING BACKS
Ryan Grant (GB)
Last year's hold out definitely hurt his
conditioning and contributed to his early season injuries. Considering that, many Coaches may be weary of drafting him too early this season, so he could slip a bit. He still finished last season strong and always gets the bulk of the carries in Green Bay.
Jerome Harrison (CLE)
Jamal Lewis is on his last legs and there's no doubting that fact. Taking that into consideration and the fact that Mangini likes to pound the ball, I think Harrison will end up being the Brown's starting RB by mid-season. Since he's had limited playing time, I would expect him to be available fairly late in this year's drafts. Snatch him up and reap the rewards!
Pierre Thomas (NO)
He reminds me so much of Emmitt Smith that it's hard not to like this him. He's compact, low to the ground, solid, strong like bull and loves running inside. PT is the antithesis of Reggie Bush (a lanky, slashing open field runner) and the much better option of the two RB's in any non-ppr leagues. Last season he emerged as the best RB option the Saints have had in years and he will continue to do so this season. Since he shares the backfield duties with superstar Reggie Bush, I expect many coaches will pass on him. But you shouldn't!
WIDE RECEIVERS
Kevin Walter (HOU)
I can't say it enough; I love this guy! He is a beast of a receiver and playing alongside AJ sure helps him with a lot of single coverage.
Though he out produced some of the "better" WR's in the league, he continues to fly under the radar, until this season. He should have a solid season and be a consistend number 2 receiver for some lucky Fantasy Football Coaches.
TJ Houshmandzadeh (SEA)
I think the change of scenery should bode well for TJ, not to mention the fact that he'll be free of Chad Diva-Cinco's antics. Assuming Hasselbeck is back to form, TJ should have some nice stats and solid points in Fantasy Football.
Lee Evans (BUF)
Having T.O. on the other side is a blessing for any WR. As usual, expect T.O. to see double coverage almost every passing down, which will leave the speedster Evans on an island with just one little cornerback between him and the ball.
Evans has shown signs of brilliance in the past but has had difficulty adapting to the 1st receiver position. T.O. made Patrick Crayton a threat, so Evans should have a monster year with T.O. on the other side. By the way, this is a contract year for Evans, too.
TIGHT ENDS
Owen Daniels (HOU)
Based on my previous value picks, you probably think I'm a Texans fan but I assure you I'm not. Daniels did not have a very TD productive season in 2008 but he still racked up good yardage totals. Daniels could be to Houston what Witten is to Dallas, so snatch this budding star in the mid to late rounds and hope he breaks out this season.
Vernon Davis (SF)
He was in the dog house with Singeltary almost instantly after
he took over as Head Coach. But Vernon kept his cool, bowed his head and kept his mouth shut, which in Singletary's world shows a lot of character. Assuming the 49ers wake up and go with Shaun Hill as their starting QB, VD should have a solid season. Considering his volatile personality and tainted reputation, expect VD to slip to the later rounds.
DEFENSES
Sorry, it's just too soon to tell which defenses have any value.
KICKERS
Who cares? Really! Who cares?
